We met Katie’s family five years ago at a wedding that we were photographing, and became fast friends. Since then we have watched their beautiful family grow and naturally we were thrilled when Katie called this summer to say that she was engaged!
Katie and her fiancée, Bryan had a clear vision for the style of their engagement photos, and their session was one for the books. They have a vintage Chris Craft boat in the family which was perfect for the look they wanted. Not only are Katie and Bryan loaded with personality, which obviously shows in their photos, but they have a great sense of style too!
The whole family got involved, which made it all the more fun, Katie’s uncle drove the Chris Craft, while her brother Nick took us on another boat so that we could get the shots we wanted while being able to change angels. Katie’s sister-in-law and little niece were on the boat with us as well. It was so cute and special to have the whole gang aboard. Katie’s mom, Devon, didn’t miss a beat either. To say this was a family affair, theirs and ours, is an understatement.
This type of session is one of the trickiest and also one of the most rewarding. You never know what you are going to get, of course the setting in Newport Harbor is beautiful, but lighting can be an issue as you are constantly moving…on two different boats! Our goal is to get it all…sometimes the in between shots can be the most stunning and in this case, there are TOO many gorgeous shots to choose from!
Not only did we want to capture this adventure for Katie and Bryan we also wanted it to be a magical experience. This takes planning! We consulted on everything, from which dock we would use, time of day, clothing, and festive props (think champagne!). We told them to “be in love, have fun, and pretend we weren’t there.” Kind of hard to do though when we were all yelling, “kiss her, kiss her!!” NO pressure at all!
These two ended their session with a splash and all the planning and effort was well worth it! Cheers to the Katie and Bryan, the adventure starts here!
